This symposium explores the relationship between photography and sexual, economic, and ethnic identity, diversity, and inequality, and their relevance for contemporary culture and politics.

Binta Ayofemi (BA, Smith College; MFA, Stanford University) is a visual artist working in large-scale color photography, digital video projection, and sculptural installation. She currently teaches at the California College of the Arts and the Oxbow School.
Anthony E. Grudin (BA, Reed College; MA & PhD, UC Berkeley) is an assistant professor of Art History at the University of Vermont. His essay, “A Sign of Good Taste: Andy Warhol and the Rise of Brand Image Advertising,” will be appearing in an upcoming issue of the Oxford Art Journal.
Jason Hanasik (BFA, SUNY Purchase; MFA California College of the Arts) is currently an instructor at the ASUC Art Studio at the University of California at Berkeley. His work has been exhibited widely and published in various journals and publications, and is currently on view at Kris Graves Projects, Brooklyn, NY.
Edward Vazquez (BA, New College; MA, University of Chicago; PhD, Stanford University) is an assistant professor of Art History at Middlebury College. He is currently teaching classes on contemporary art and art since 1960.
